TEAMS from across Scotland and even as far afield as the Netherlands have ensured the North Berwick 7s have been declared a success.

The tournament took place on Saturday at the town’s Recreation Park and saw 15 teams battle it out for the top prize.

Also taking place on the day was an under-18s 10-a-side competition.

Chris Martin, spokesman for the host club, felt it had turned out a great day.

He said: “It seemed to be a very successful tournament.

“The weather makes it, which was really good.”

North Berwick Reds won the Howard Selby Trophy in the age group competition, beating rival sides from Dalkeith, Musselburgh and Livingston, as well as a second North Berwick team, to the prize.

In the sevens, a team from Etten Leur, near Breda in the south of the country, were among those in the event.

A group from the Dutch town regular come across to Scotland for the Autumn Internationals and joined in the day-long action.

However, it was Musselburgh who retained their crown after victory over Merchiston in the final.

Peebles were also celebrating as they lifted the Consolation Plate with a triumph over Dundee University.
