TRANENT Juniors play their first game on a Saturday in several weeks and have East Lothian to themselves.

The Belters welcome Lowland League leaders Spartans to Foresters Park having seen their own title bid take a massive hit against University of Stirling on Wednesday night.

Elsewhere, Haddington Athletic and Musselburgh Athletic both face tough away trips in the East of Scotland Football League Premier Division.

Haddington head to Hill of Beath Hawthorn while Musselburgh venture to Jeanfield Swifts.

Dunbar United head to Luncarty for the second week in a row while Preston Athletic visit Rosyth in the First Division.

Finally, Ormiston Primrose make the short trip to Arniston Rangers in the Second Division.

Tranent’s game kicks off at 3pm, with the remaining ties getting under way half an hour earlier.

Match of the Day

Luncarty v Dunbar United

East of Scotland Football League First Division

Dunbar United last five games: LLLWL

NOT so long ago, it seemed Dunbar United’s path to the top flight of the EoSFL was clear.

However, the Seasiders have hit a poor run of form at the worst time and need to get back to winning ways.

They travel to Luncarty for the second consecutive Saturday having lost 2-1 there seven days ago.

There were positives to take from the showing then but they will be keen to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible.

Luncarty sit nine points adrift but with two games in hand.

INCONSISTENCY in recent weeks means Tranent are more than likely to come up short in their bid for back-to-back promotions.

Colin Nish’s side can be more than satisfied with their debut campaign in the fifth tier of the Scottish football pyramid.

They sit fifth with three fixtures remaining and could yet put a sizeable dent in the title bid of the league leaders.

University of Stirling will hope they can do just that and potentially keep them in the hunt for a promotion play-off.

Hill of Beath Hawthorn v Haddington Athletic

East of Scotland Football League Premier Division

Haddington Athletic last five games: WDLWW

AN EXTRA time triumph over Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale helped Haddington Athletic get back to winning ways last weekend.

The King Cup victory means they are through to the third round and now turn attention to the league.

The Hi Hi sit fifth in the table and will be looking to finish their debut campaign in a strong fashion.

In contrast, Hill of Beath Hawthorn sit three points above the drop zone and will be keen to ease any worries of a relegation battle.

East Lothian Courier: Musselburgh Athletic make the trip to Jeanfield SwiftsMusselburgh Athletic make the trip to Jeanfield Swifts

Jeanfield Swifts v Musselburgh Athletic

East of Scotland Football League Premier Division

Musselburgh Athletic last five games: LWDLW

ARGUABLY the match of the day, it is third versus fourth at the top of the Premier Division.

Just a single point separates the two sides, although Musselburgh do have the benefit of a game in hand.

Jeanfield have lost three of their last four league games, although two of them have come against league leaders Linlithgow Rose and second placed Sauchie.

Musselburgh won the reverse fixture 3-0 and would gladly take that on their trip to the Riverside Stadium.

Rosyth v Preston Athletic

East of Scotland Football League First Division

Preston Athletic last five games: DLLLW

MID-TABLE safety looks on the cards for both Preston Athletic and their hosts Rosyth.

Preston sit 12 points adrift of Newtongrange Star, who occupy the last promotion spot, but 13 points clear of the bottom three.

Both teams will be determined to finish the season strongly in a bid to hit the ground running next term.

It was a home win at the Pennypit back in August and Paul Currie and John Daly will be looking to end a four-game winless run.

Arniston Rangers v Ormiston Primrose

East of Scotland Football League Second Division

Ormiston Primrose: DLLDD

THE battle to avoid relegation takes Richie Weir’s Ormiston Primrose side to Midlothian this afternoon.

Five points adrift of Craigroyston, the county side know they need to start picking up points and also to make their games in hand count.

Meanwhile, Arniston have promotion hopes and know they will likely need to defeat Ormiston to keep them alive.

A win for Weir’s men would be a real boost in their bid to catch the teams above them.
