TEENAGE footballers are hoping to cook up a storm thanks to a new sponsorship deal.

Gullane Athletic AFC Girls’ team are kicking off the South-East Under-16 League and have received the backing of Tom Kitchin and The Bonnie Badger.

The restaurant, which is based in the village, has committed its support to funding the new kits for the emerging players, contributing the team tops and training tops for the team who play in the South-East region under the Scottish Women’s Football Association.

To celebrate the partnership, the team and their coaches, Mike Mackie and Stephen Cavers, visited The Bonnie Badger for a post-training treat ahead of their first match of the season last month.

Head coach Mackie was “delighted” with the backing and said: “Community clubs find it an ongoing challenge to meet ever-increasing costs and, with the help of the team at The Bonnie Badger, we’ve been able to ensure the girls have the right kit for training and for matches.

“The team is looking forward to the 2023 season as they move up into the South-East Under-16 league, which is the oldest age group the club have competed at in girls’ football.

“It will undoubtedly be a challenge for them, but they are super excited and keen to get going.”

The award-winning chef owner was pleased to back the football team and highlighted its importance to the village.

He said: “Like food and restaurants, sport and football can build real connections and bring communities together. We’ve been really pleased to support one of the local teams and inspire the young Gullane football enthusiasts.”
