Musselburgh progressed in the Scottish Cup as North Berwick knocked Ross High out of the National Shield in an eventful weekend of county rugby games.

It was Scottish Cup action for Musselburgh who ran out 40-21 winners over Highland.

The hosts were 12-0 up within 20 minutes thanks to tries from Tom Foley and Bob Stott. One conversion was missed and another converted.

The visitors hit back though to lead 12-14 at the break.

Musselburgh responded in the second half though with tries from Colin Arthur and Craig Owenson (2) to secure a 40-21 win.

In the Tennent’s National League Division Two, Preston lodge were comfortable 61-7 winners over Cartha Queens Park.

Jack Gordon scored a try in the first minute to make it 5-0, before Paul Dixon scored a try which was converted to make it 12-0 after 12 minutes.

Jamie Gallagher added a third try which was converted later in the half and PL led 19-6 at half time.

In the second half Gordon, Ali Steele, Pete Johnstone, Gallagher, Dale Gordon and Finlay Hughes all scored tries to wrap up a comfortable win.

Preston Lodge sit ninth in the table and next face Dumfries Saints at home on Saturday, February 18.

North Berwick ran out 52-20 winners at home to Ross High in the third round of the National Shield.

Milan Stewart (2), Ethan Telfer (2), Reece Patterson, Jake Boswell, Nick McCashin, Gregor Mitchell and Calum Bryson all scored tries for the hosts who were in firm control of the game throughout.

North Berwick will face Oban Lorne in the quarter final on March 4.

Ross High next face Broughton at home on Friday in the Tennent’s East Region League Division One with kick off at 7.30pm.

In the Tennent’s East Region League Division One, Haddington were narrow 22-21 winners over Leith in a thrilling contest.

Haddington now sit fourth in the table and next face Linlithgow on Saturday, February 18 at home.

Dunbar were narrowly beaten 20-19 away from home against Corstorphine in the Tennent’s East Region League Division Two.

The narrow defeat leaves Dunbar sixth in the table still 17 points clear of bottom placed Hawick Linden. They next face Livingston away from home on Saturday, February 18.
