THE county’s football sides had a mixed weekend of results with wins for Tranent Juniors, Preston Athletic and Dunbar United while Musselburgh United and Ormiston Primrose were beaten and Haddington Athletic were held to a draw.

In the Scottish Lowland Football League, Tranent recorded an impressive 3-1 home victory against East Stirlingshire.

Martin Maughan put Tranent in front in the first half from the penalty spot before the visitors equalised before half-time.

The hosts were resilient though, going back in front early in the second half before Maughan struck again and Euan Greig made it 3-1.

Tranent sit third in the table, just one point off The Spartans who lead the league, and next face Caledonian Braves away from home on Saturday.

In the Premier Division, Haddington Athletic were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts.

Ethan Williams put in a man of the match performance as he netted Haddington’s goal on 49 minutes after the visitor’s had taken the lead through a Callum Murray penalty in the first half.

Haddington sit tenth in the table and next face Oakley United away on Saturday.

Musselburgh were narrowly beaten 1-0 away to Tynecastle with the hosts netting through Stuart Frankland.

Musselburgh sit sixth in the table and next face Blackburn United at home on Saturday.

In the First Division, Preston Athletic beat Leith Athletic 5-2 at home in an entertaining game.

Cami Laidlaw netted a hat-trick while Jamie Devlin and Steven McCole also scored against a Leith side who were reduced to nine men in the second half.

Preston Athletic sit fifth in the table and next face Lochore Welfare at home on Saturday.

Dunbar United won 2-0 away against Dunipace with goals from Bob Berry on 29 minutes and Liam Gregory on 78 minutes.

Dunbar sit top of the table on 38 points and next face Kennoway Star Hearts at home on Saturday.

In the Second Division, Ormiston Primrose were comfortably beaten 4-0 away to Whitburn.

The hosts, who sit top of the table, were comfortable from the start leading 2-0 at half-time before doubling the advantage in the second half.

Ormiston sit second bottom of the table and next face Heriot-Watt University at home on Saturday.
