DAVID Hunter has been crowned the winner of a festive competition.

Tyne District Squash and Racketball Club host the Christmas Cup, which is open to all juniors under the age of 16.

Tyne Juniors were in action at the start of the school holidays and all the juniors played seven matches of two games to 15 points.

In the initial box leagues, Hunter won all his matches 2-0.

In the semi-final, he went on to defeat Fraser Westgarth 2-0, who had come second in his box league.

Defending champion Isla Hamilton was undefeated in her box league and moved up to play her younger sister Phoebe for a place in the final.

In what was a very close two sets, Phoebe won 26- 25 to move up to the final against Hunter.

Again, it was a close match and at one stage Hamilton held three match balls but failed to win any of them as Hunter won 2-0.

In the third-place play-off, Westgarth beat Isla Hamilton 23-21.
