ORMISTON Primrose boss Richie Weir believes his side are not too far away from turning performances into points.

The county side were edged out 2-1 by Lochgelly Albert on Saturday as they slipped to second bottom in the East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL) Second Division.

However, they have not lost by more than a single goal in any of their league contests since October 1, when Newburgh won 2-0 at New Recreation Park.

Weir was looking to take the positives from those showings and hopefully start picking up points on a more consistent basis.

He told Courier Sport: “We are not too far away.

“We have conceded too many silly goals, which are preventable.

“This season, we are scoring some goals and that has been a problem in seasons gone by.

“We are just that wee bit away but we are trying to add to the squad to freshen things up.

“We have had two new signings in the last week and both started on Saturday and played well.

“We are looking to bring in quality to help the existing guys.”

Ormiston have struggled in recent seasons and look destined for another relegation fight as they sit five points from safety.

The campaign had begun promisingly with a 4-0 win over Hawick Royal Albert on the second day of the season and then a 2-2 draw with Edinburgh United.

However, since then, they have picked up just two more points.

Weir described the season as “frustrating”.

He said: “We have played some good matches and we have played some really bad matches.

“We just cannot seem to get a run of consistency going.

“It has been a frustrating year.”

The latest frustration came against Lochgelly Albert, who leapfrogged them in the table with a 2-1 win.

That came after Ormiston had picked up an encouraging 2-2 draw with a St Andrews United side challenging for promotion a week earlier.

The manager felt that his side were not good enough in the first half against their latest Fife opposition and challenged them to turn in a better performance against Peebles Rovers on Saturday.

The two sides have already met twice this campaign, with the spoils shared in the league and Ormiston winning a penalty shootout in the second round of the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup.

Weir said: “We approach every match and we know the teams that are really hard to beat.

“The thing with Peebles is they have gone a few games winning.

“They beat Edinburgh South and they beat Newburgh at the weekend.

“They are on a bit of a high and it is a game where we will need to play at a high level to get anything out of the game.

“They need to up their game to get anything out of it.”
