MARTIN Boyle has described the chance to play at the World Cup as “what dreams are made of”.

The Hibernian frontman was named in Australia’s 26-man squad for the tournament in Qatar, which gets under way next Sunday (November 20).

Boyle, who lives in Dunbar, took to social media to highlight his delight at being selected for the squad.

He said: “Incredibly honoured to be selected to represent the Socceroos at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.”

Australia have been drawn in a group with France, Denmark and Tunisia; the top two go through.

The 29-year-old was previously capped for Scotland under-16s but changed allegiance in 2018.

He qualifies to play for Australia through his father Graeme, who was born in Sydney.

Boyle’s wife, Rachael, who also plays for Hibs, congratulated her husband on social media.

She said she was “incredibly proud” of her husband, adding: “The hundreds of hours spent in the car every weekend to cheer you on in the sun, wind, rain and snow; you sitting in the stands next to me watching on; the operations and rehabs... It has all been worth it to get to this moment.”
