A FIRST taste of Lowland League football for Tranent Juniors ended in defeat to title contenders East Kilbride.
The East Lothian side were making their debut in the fifth tier of Scottish football having gained promotion from the East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL) at the end of last season.
Jamie Docherty opened the scoring at Foresters Park with a stunning free-kick but the game was turned on its head when Robert McHugh, Ronan Hughes and Jonny Page all scored from set pieces.
Summer signing Craig Barr managed to pull one back for Calum Elliot’s men but they could not find an equaliser.
Tranent make their first away trip of the season on Wednesday when they head to Cumbernauld Colts, who lost 3-0 to Bo’ness United on the opening day.
