TWO Tranent youngsters, including the son of a Hibernian legend, have signed for the Easter Road side.

Harry Wright and Owen Hastie were two of the five teenagers putting pen to paper on professional deals with the Edinburgh club last Thursday.

Sixteen-year-old Wright is the son of Hibs legend Keith Wright, who was previously inducted into the club’s hall of fame.

While Keith was a free-scoring striker, Harry plays at right-back and joined the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) outfit from Tranent Colts.

Now he will attempt to make his mark with the club’s under-18s squad.

Kenny Rafferty, from Tranent Colts, wished the teenager, who lives in Tranent, well with the capital club.

He said: “He had great technique and just bundles of energy.

“He was really, really brave and you could kick him and he would keep getting back up.

“That answered any questions about whether he could handle the physical side of the game.”

As well as playing for Hibs, 57-year-old Keith Wright starred for Raith Rovers and Dundee.

The frontman was also capped for Scotland, playing 76 minutes in a 1-0 win over Northern Ireland in 1992.

He would go on to coach at both Haddington Athletic and Penicuik Athletic.

Meanwhile, Hastie, who attended Ross High School, played his football with Portobello.

Scott Bonar, who manages East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL) Premier Division side Haddington Athletic, was proud of the youngster, who he coached at the Capital club.

He said: “He had a great attitude and kept working hard, taking everything on board.

“He was doing one-to-ones as well and that helped as well.

“He developed into a really good player.

“He was combative, good in the tackle, box-to-box and scoring goals.

“He is left-footed and turned into a really good player.”
