COUNTY rugby star Rory Darge picked up a hat-trick of awards at the 2021/22 Glasgow Warriors awards dinner.

The ceremony took place at the Hilton in Glasgow, and was the first time the club had been able to host in-person awards since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 22-year-old from Aberlady claimed McCrea Financial Services Player of the Season, edging out fellow back-rower Jack Dempsey to the award, with more than 2,000 votes cast by fans.

The openside flanker led the way in turnovers for the club with 15, taking home four player of the match awards and two McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month prizes.

His blistering form in a Warriors’ jersey was also recognised by his peers as he took home the Denholm Energy Services Players’ Player of the Season.

Darge was also awarded the Harper Macleod Test Player of the Season, in recognition of his outstanding debut season in a Scotland shirt.

His off-the-bench debut against Wales turned heads as he announced himself on the international scene and he followed it up with a stellar performance against France.

Darge’s season sadly ended in injury against the Vodacom Bulls, but his form for club and country has left high expectations for what the young county star can achieve next.
