SCOTLAND international Rory Darge could round off a memorable campaign with a player of the season award.

The openside flanker has enjoyed a breakthrough 2021-22, after making the switch from Edinburgh Rugby to Glasgow Warriors 13 months ago.

Since then, he has been a regular not only for the Scotstoun outfit but also forced his way into the reckoning for the national side.

Now, he is one of seven players nominated for the McCrea Financial Services Player of the Season by the Glasgow Warriors coaching team.

According to the club: “Openside flanker Darge’s sensational form in 2021/22 has seen the back-rower rocket into the national consciousness, becoming an integral part of the setup for both club and country over the last 12 months.

“No player has won more turnovers for Glasgow Warriors in the United Rugby Championship than Darge’s 15 to date this season, whilst only two team-mates – Jack Dempsey and Rufus McLean – can claim to have beaten more defenders than his tally of 27.

“A two-time McCrea Financial Services Warrior of the Month and named as Player of the Match in each of his opening three starts this season, the North Berwick product’s form earned him a senior international debut in the 2022 Guinness Six Nations.”

The 22-year-old, who grew up in Aberlady, is listed alongside winger Sebastian Cancelliere; fellow back-rower Jack Dempsey; second-rower Richie Gray; fellow Scotland internationals Sam Johnson and Sione Tuipulotu; and full-back Josh McKay as being up for the award.

Darge made his Scotland debut against Wales in this year’s Six Nations and immediately followed it up with a stunning performance against France, where he scored a try in the 36-17 loss.

He missed the Warriors’ encounter with Lyon last week and is currently ruled out for up to 12 weeks with a knee injury.

The winner of the award will be decided by a public vote and announced this evening (Tuesday) at Hilton Glasgow.
