LAST Saturday’s victory over Jeanfield Swifts has edged Tranent Juniors closer to making history.
St Cuthbert Wanderers and Darvel stand between Calum Elliot’s team and a place in the Scottish Lowland Football League (SLFL) – the fifth tier of Scottish football’s pyramid.
Tranent host St Cuthbert Wanderers today (Sunday) at 3pm in the first contest of a three-way play-off battle for promotion.
The Kirkcudbright side are the reigning South of Scotland Football League (SoSFL) champions having won the league title by nine points from Threave Rovers.
The visitors to Foresters Park will be considered the outsiders by many but cannot be underestimated.
St Cuthbert’s lost just two leagues game all season – the same number as their hosts.
It is also not their first contest with an East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL) side this season.
In November, they lost 3-2 to Linlithgow Rose in the Challenge Cup.
West of Scotland Football League (WoSFL) winners Darvel will then make the trip to Dumfries and Galloway on Wednesday evening before Darvel welcome Tranent to Recreation Park next Saturday.
The overall winner of the contests between the three teams will then move up to the SLFL.
