COUNTY swimmers have returned home from the Scottish National Age Group (SNAGs) Championship in Glasgow with more than 60 medals.

East Lothian Swim Team (ELST) matched their best ever finish at SNAGs last week, finishing third overall out of more than 90 teams from all over Scotland.

Forty-five swimmers represented ELST at Tollcross, winning 53 individual medals and nine relay medals.

The girls’ medal winners were:

  • Tegan Black (15 years) – Two golds (800m and 1,500m freestyle), one silver (400m individual medley (IM)) and two bronzes (200m backstroke and 200m IM);
  • Lucy Hall (11-13 years) – One bronze (800m freestyle);
  • Zara Krawiec (11-13 years) – Seven medals, including four golds (50m and 200m breaststroke, 200m IM and 100m butterfly);
  • Ava Marko (11-13 years) – One silver (50m butterfly);
  • Helen Stoddart (15 years) – Two golds (50m freestyle and 50m butterfly), one silver (100m butterfly) and one bronze (100m freestyle);
  • Louisa Stoddart (17-18 years) – One silver (50m butterfly);
  • Isla Whetton (11-13 years) – Two silvers (50m and 100m backstroke).

The boys’ medallists were:

  • Ross Anderton (14 years) – Three bronzes (50m, 100m and 200m butterfly);
  • Conner Aspinall (11-13 years) – Eight medals, including three golds (100m and 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke);
  • Luke Hornsey (16 years) – Seven medals, five of them gold (400m, 800m and 1,500m freestyle, and 200m and 400m IM);
  • Stefan Krawiec (16 years) – Six medals, all gold (50m, 100m and 200m butterfly, 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle), equalling the Scottish national junior record in the 50m butterfly of 25.67s;
  • Calum Peebles (16 years) – Two silvers (100m freestyle and 200m backstroke) and four bronzes (100m backstroke, 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle);
  • Zach Slater (15 years) – Two silvers (100m and 200m freestyle).

The following swimmers also made individual finals: Eilidh Armstrong, Lauren Clark, Grace Courtney, Lucy Fleming, Declan Kay, Anna Lawson, Lewis Lothian, India Marshall, Luke Porteous, Kirsty Sievwright and Owen Williamson.

In the relay events, ELST secured nine medals:

  • The 11-13 years’ girls (Isla Whetton, Zara Krawiec, Ava Marko and Anna Lawson) won gold in the 4x100m medley and silver in the 4x100m freestyle (Isla Whetton, Eva Kay, Kirsty Sievwright and Isla Luke);
  • The 14-16 years’ boys (Luke Hornsey, Stefan Krawiec, Calum Peebles and Zach Slater) swept the board, securing first in all three of their relays, and smashing the Scottish national junior record in the 4x100m freestyle, taking four seconds off the previous record with a time of 3m34.12s;
  • The 14-16 years’ girls (Grace Courtney, Eilidh Armstrong, Helen Stoddart and Tegan Black) won bronze in the 4x100m medley;
  • The 17+ years’ girls (Abby Davis, Iona Wilson, India Marshall and Louisa Stoddart) won bronze in the 4x200m freestyle;
  • In the mixed medley relays, the team secured two gold medals in the 11-13 years’ (Isla Whetton, Zara Krawiec, Lewis Lothian and Conner Aspinall) and the 14-16 years’ age groups (Eilidh Armstrong, Luke Hornsey, Stefan Krawiec and Helen Stoddart).
