CHAMPION swimmers from throughout East Lothian clinched 36 medals at a prestigious competition.

East Lothian Swim Team (ELST) – made up of young swimmers from Haddington, Musselburgh and Tranent swim clubs – were in impressive form at the East District Championships.

The final round of the championships took place at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh and consisted of 100m events across all strokes, as well as the 200m IM (individual medley) and relay events.

Clinching medals in the boys’ events were:

  • Conner Aspinall was impressive in winning three golds and a silver in the 13-years’ age group. In the same age group, Lewis Lothian picked up a bronze.
  • Ross Anderton was equally impressive, winning three golds and a silver in the 14-year-old age group.
  • Zach Slater (15 years) also had a good meet, winning a gold and two bronze medals.
  • Luke Hornsey, Stefan Krawiec and Calum Peebles continued to dominate the 16-years’ age group, sharing gold medals across all the 100m events, as well as picking up silver and bronze medals.
  • In the 17-years’ age group, Owen Williamson won a silver medal in the 100m backstroke.

Meanwhile, the girls returned from the event with an equally impressive medal haul:

  • In the 11-12-years’ age group, Lucy Fleming had a great meet, picking up two golds. In the same age group, Eilidh Fee won a silver and a bronze.
  • Zara Krawiec continued to dominate the 13-years’ age group, winning gold medals in all five events. In the same age group, Anna Lawson, Ava Marko and Isla Whetton also picked up medals.
  • Tegan Black and Helen Stoddart (15 years) both enjoyed success, with Black picking up a full set of gold, silver and bronze medals, and Stoddart winning a gold.
  • In the 16-years’ age group, Eilidh Armstrong won a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke, as well as qualifying for a number of finals.

As well as the medallists, the following swimmers made finals: Lucia Bivar Segurado, Grace Courtney, Boyd Fearnside, Emma Finlay, Olivia Flockhart, Ava Gray, Lucy Hall, Grace Hanak, Grace Harley, Declan Kay, Morven Kenny, Isla Luke, Carly Marshall, Alex Prest, Luke Porteous, Kirsty Sievwright, Louisa Stoddart, Liam Warner and Iona Wilson.

ELST’s attention now turns to the Scottish National Age Group Championship (SNAGs), being held from Wednesday to next Sunday (April 17).

Jamie Ward, ELST head coach, was looking forward to the event in Glasgow.

He said: “I am delighted with the performances this weekend and once again we have shown the strength we have across the team.

“A number of our athletes are currently in very heavy training with a focus on SNAGs, making these performances even more impressive.”
