A NORTH Berwick High School pupil has been named in the 26-player squad for an international rugby tournament.
Poppy Fletcher, who lives in the town, is part of the Scotland squad for the under-18 Women’s Six Nations Festival.
The Scotland U18 group completed a two-day camp in Largs in February and also enjoyed a combined training session with England U18s.
The group took part in a break-out forwards’ session, focusing on developing scrummage techniques, before playing four 20-minute games with variations of rules.
The festival – at Edinburgh Rugby’s DAM Health Stadium – begins tomorrow (Saturday), with Scotland facing Wales and Italy on the opening day before taking on Italy again on Wednesday.
A 32-player squad had previously been announced, also featuring Millie Capaldi, of Gullane.
North Berwick High School’s newsletter said after the 32-player squad had been announced: “They [Poppy and Millie] were selected after a tough weekend of trials with 140 other girls from across Scotland at Murrayfield.
“It’s a huge commitment going forward, with residential national training every other weekend as well as their twice-weekly club rugby and conditioning at Murrayfield three times a week.
“They both currently train and play for Harlequins U18 and Heriots women.”
