IT WAS a superb day for Team East Lothian at the National Short Course event at Lanark Racecourse on November 6.

Wet and wild weather did not stop Olympians from coming along to race alongside the club athletes, or Team East Lothian club athletes from winning three brilliant bronzes over the course of the day.

Fraser Lupton was the first Team East Lothian (TEL) athlete to tackle the conditions – his race was around 2k and with a field of 88 under-15 boys, Lupton ran very well to finish in 32nd place with a time of 6m44s.

Maja Thomson was in the next race – the 3k race for under-17 women.

Thomson had a strong run and battled against the elements to win an individual bronze medal in a time of 11m40s.

Corey Campbell also had a superb run in the U17 men’s race over 3k and in a tightly-packed finish, with only three seconds separating the top three.

Campbell also achieved an individual bronze medal in a time of 9m45s.

Also having fantastic performances in the U17 men’s race were team-mates Aidan Page and Angus Wright, finishing in 17th (10m22s) and 18th (10m23s) respectively, and winning a team bronze medal.

Flora Henry had tough competition in the senior and U20 women’s race, with Olympian Laura Muir in the field.

Running in her Team GB vest and representing her club Dundee Hawkhill Harriers, Muir made cross-country look easy to cover the 4k distance in 13m9s and win the race.

Henry had a strong run to finish 14th in the U20 category, and 82nd overall out of a huge field of more than 200 athletes.

Spectators were also treated to watching Olympian Andy Butchart and Jake Wightman compete in the men’s race, with Butchart taking the win comfortably.

Thanks went to Bobby Gavin for capturing the action.
