A TOP-OF-THE-TABLE clash takes centre stage for East Lothian’s football teams today (Saturday).

Tranent Juniors welcome Penicuik Athletic to Foresters Park in the East of Scotland Football League Premier Division.

A single point separates the two sides, with Tranent knowing a victory would see them leapfrog their opponents and go two points clear.

The two clubs have taken 89 points from a possible 102, with just three losses between them in 34 games.

Calum Elliot’s men have played two games more than their opponents and will be keen to keep the pressure on at the top.

The two sides are yet to play each other in the league this term but Tranent did end Penicuik’s Scottish Cup journey with a 3-1 victory at Penicuik Park.

Elsewhere in the Premiership, Musselburgh Athletic will be looking to continue their impressive run when they travel to Whitehill Welfare.

Joe Hamill’s men are unbeaten in their past four league outings but had to fight back from 2-0 down against Hill of Beath Hawthorn to secure a draw last time out.

The Midlothian hosts do not have their troubles to seek as they sit bottom of the pile having passed the halfway stage of the season.

They lost 7-0 to Tranent in midweek and will need to start picking up points quickly if they are to ease any relegation fears.

Finally, Dunbar United are also heading for Midlothian as they face another team battling at the bottom in Newtongrange Star.

Managed by former New Countess Park favourite Chris King, Star are one point better off than Musselburgh’s opponents.

Dunbar are on their own run of disappointing form having not won in the league since September 25 when they defeated Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts.

Three points for the Seasiders would see them move away from the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, in First Division Conference A, Haddington Athletic will be out to maintain their lengthy league unbeaten run when they head to Coldstream.

The Hi Hi have dropped just two points from a possible 39 this campaign and lead Leith Athletic by three points.

Coldstream sit seventh in the table and will be out to spring a surprise.

Meanwhile, Ormiston will be hoping to end their lengthy goal drought and move off the bottom of the table.

They are away to a Tweedmouth Rangers side who picked up an impressive win over title-chasing Kennoway Star Hearts last weekend.

Just two points separate the two clubs and Ormiston could move above St Andrews United, Craigroyston and their opponents with a win.

Finally, in Conference B, Preston Athletic will be looking to keep the pressure on league leaders Glenrothes.

The Pennypit team sit second, six points behind their Fife rivals, who have played three games more.

Jack Lynch’s men are at home to mid-table Peebles Rovers while Glenrothes face a tricky home tie with third placed Lochore Welfare.

All games kick off at 2.30pm, with the exception of Ormiston’s game, which starts at 2pm.
