BEN Miller has vowed to keep repaying Tranent Juniors after firing his hometown club into the Scottish Cup third round for the first time.

The Belters have been on an upwards trajectory in recent years and the 2-0 win over Broomhill on Saturday saw them write another piece in the history books.

Miller added to Shaun Rutherford’s first-half strike to knock out the Lowland League club and set up a tie with League Two’s Stirling Albion.

The matchwinner said: “I have said it all along, what the committee has done in the last six years, they have absolutely transformed the club.

“The surrounding areas, the pitch and us as players, especially me, we are trying to repay the faith.

“What they have done for the club, this is where they want to be.

“That is why they have made big changes and we are just trying to repay the faith to the committee.

“They work so hard behind the scenes.”

Miller, who previously played with Berwick Rangers, replaced Adam Watson midway through the second half.

With seven minutes to go, he collected a loose ball before firing past goalkeeper Jamie Smith to double Tranent’s advantage.

He said: “I noticed the goalkeeper was going to try to make me take it round him.

“I saw a gap and put it past him.

“He thought I was going to take it round, which worked in my favour, and then I celebrated with friends behind the goal.”

Saturday’s victory meant a place in the third-round draw for the first time in the club’s history, with the draw taking place the following day.

Tranent will now head to Forthbank Stadium, where only Kelty Hearts and Hearts have defeated the hosts this season, in the next round of the competition.

Miller said: “I sat down with my dad to watch the draw.

“You are wanting a home draw before one of the big teams – Celtic, Rangers, Hibs and Hearts – comes in in the next round but Stirling is definitely winnable.

“They have started really well in League Two this season.

“Hopefully, we will take another big crowd and it is a one-off game.

“It is a free hit basically and anything could happen – it is definitely winnable.”
