TEENAGE golfer Grace Crawford has been selected in a six-strong team ahead of the Junior Vagliano Trophy.

The biennial competition sees half a dozen of the best female junior golfers representing Great Britain and Ireland against their counterparts from Europe.

Janet Melville, the 1978 AIG Women’s Open champion, will captain Great Britain and Ireland as they look for a first victory in the competition, which started in 2011.

Crawford, of West Links Junior, is the only Scottish golfer selected in the team.

The 2020 UK Junior Open and the 2021 Stephen Gallacher Foundation vase winner, from North Berwick, is joined by Rosie Bee Kim (Buckinghamshire, England), Harriet Lockley (Burnham & Berrow, Wales), Katie Poots (Knock, Ireland), Maggie Whitehead (Close House, England) and Ellen Yates (West Hill, England).

Melville, who is a member at Royal Birkdale, said: “We have a wonderfully talented group of players who are all delighted to be representing GB&I in what will be an exciting contest in the Netherlands.

“I’m honoured to captain the GB&I team and to lead these young golfers in such a prestigious match which gives them a fantastic opportunity to compete against their peers from Europe.”

The tournament, which is being played at Hilversumsche in the Netherlands, takes place on Friday and Saturday (October 8 and 9).
