HIBERNIAN Football Club star Martin Boyle has committed his future to the Easter Road side after signing until the summer of 2024.

The winger has been in impressive form, finishing last season with 15 goals and continuing that into the new campaign with six goals from the opening eight games.

Now, Boyle, who lives in Dunbar, has ended months of speculation by signing a new deal with Jack Ross’ team.

Boyle had been linked with a move south of the Border and also with a transfer to Aberdeen.

Twenty-eight-year-old Boyle told the Hibernian website that the club meant “a lot to me and my family”.

Boyle’s wife, Rachael, also plays for Hibs and has been capped by Scotland.

Martin said: “I think everyone can see how much I’m enjoying it here and how my own game is benefitting from that.

“As a team we’re always looking to improve and that’s key for me.

“Everyone can see the desire from the club, the players, and the management staff to progress and challenge for trophies and European football; that excites me and that’s where I want to be.

“If we keep working hard, then hopefully we will be able to create more highs than the ones we’ve already had.”

Boyle, who previously played for Montrose and Dundee, and his team-mates reached the final of last season’s Scottish Cup, where they lost to St Johnstone.

Callum Booth, of Haddington, and the McDiarmid Park side also knocked Boyle and Hibs out of the League Cup at the semi-final stage.

Boyle, who has been capped seven times for Australia, who he qualifies for through his dad, Graeme, scored 12 times in the league as Hibs finished third – their highest finish since 2005.

Ross added: “Last season, his numbers for goals and assists were outstanding, and he’s started exactly the same this season as well.

“You can tell he’s feeling good and he’s right at it.

“For me, he’s as good as anyone in this country in his position, and long may it continue because he’s a major asset for us.

“He’s also a really good character, brings energy to the club every day, and works really hard for the team.

“He’s a player of real quality and a really good person for us to have at this football club.”
