KEVIN Haynes believes there is more to come from his Dunbar United side, despite an impressive start to the season.

The Seasiders are just one point short of last season’s total, despite having played only half the amount of games.

Ten points from the opening half a dozen contests have them sitting sixth in the East of Scotland Football League (EoSFL) Premier Division.

Saturday’s 2-2 draw with bottom club Hill of Beath Hawthorn was the club’s first draw of the campaign and Haynes was frustrated at the points being dropped.

He said: “Results have been fairly good this season.

“We could have done a bit better on Saturday.

“We were in a strong position and let it slide but in general it has been good.

“Probably, in my opinion, we are a couple of points short going on the performances.

“The two games that we got beat in [against Camelon and Jeanfield Swifts] we got beat 1-0 in both.

“We easily could have had points from the games.

“We were denied a last-minute penalty against Camelon and the game up at Jeanfield we had numerous chances and hit the crossbar in the last minute.

“We could have got something.”

Haynes’ team had trailed 1-0 against their Fife opposition on Saturday but had turned things round to lead 2-1 going into the half-time interval.

A second-half penalty ensured the spoils were shared and Hill of Beath picked up their first point of a disappointing campaign.

Haynes, who previously played for Dunbar before going on to sign for Berwick Rangers, felt that a greater consistency in games was still to come from his side.

He also called on his team to become more “ruthless” in front of goal in a bid to ensure points did not slip through their grasp.

Haynes succeeded Geoff Jones just before the new EoSFL season got under way last month.

The new boss told Courier Sport he had “inherited” the squad, with little time to make any alterations or put his stamp on training.

He said: “I’ve actually only had one full week to put on a full week’s training.

“The rest of it has been taken up by matches.

“So, we have only had one week where we have managed two training sessions.”

This weekend, Dunbar welcome to New Countess Park a Musselburgh Athletic side who are also under new management.

Joe Hamill took the manager’s hot seat at Olivebank at the end of last month, with the Honest Toun outfit currently sitting one point better off than Dunbar.

Haynes felt there was little between the sides – or any of the clubs in the top flight of the EoSFL.

He said: “Musselburgh are a good side and have good players.

“They will have that natural lift from Joe Hamill coming in and he is a good manager.

“He knows what he is doing and played at a decent level and coached at Haddington for a long time.

“Musselburgh players will have a lift from that and it is going to be a hard game; probably even harder because Joe is still playing and he is a talented player.

“It is a hard game but another that is winnable.

“I am yet to come across a team in the league so far that are miles ahead of everybody else.”
