ALEX Marshall’s bid for a seventh singles title at the World Indoor Bowls Championships is over for another year.

The Tranent bowler lost 7-5, 5-5 to Katherine Rednall this afternoon (Thursday) in the open singles at the prestigious tournament in Norfolk.

Marshall, who previously told Courier Sport that he had barely picked up a bowl in the last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, had hoped to seal a place in the last eight.

However, it was Rednall, who is seven months pregnant, who emerged victorious.

It marks the start of a busy day for the winner, who will face Laura Daniels for the ladies singles title later this afternoon.

Marshall, 53, has lost out in the second round in the last two World Indoor Bowls Championships.

He has won the men’s singles six times between 1999 and 2015, as well as finishing runner-up.

Marshall has also won the open pairs six times, as well as the mixed pairs on two occasions.
