ALEX Marshall and Paul Foster's hopes of a fifth World Indoor Bowls title together were surprisingly ended at the quarter-final stage today (Sunday).
Marshall, from Tranent, and his former East Lothian team-mate Foster were the favourites to win the competition but suffered a shock three-set loss to Michael Stepney and Simon Skelton.
After losing the first set 7-6, Marshall and Foster battled back to level the match with an 8-5 win in the second.
However, they were beaten 2-1 in the tiebreaker to exit the competition, Marshall's last bowl just millimetres from the target as he attempted to kill the end.
Both Marshall and Foster will hope for luck when the singles competition starts next week.
