A BRILLIANT five-under par round of 66 saw East Lothian's Grant Forrest surge up the leaderboard after day two of The Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club, by Dirleton.

Following a slightly disappointing level-par round of 71 on Thursday - especially after carding birdies at the first three holes of his opening round - Forrest, of Haddington, never dropped a shot in benign conditions today, claiming memorable eagles at the Par 5 seventh and tenth holes and rounding off with a birdie two at the short 17th.

Australia's Lucas Herbert tops the scoring at the halfway point on 11 under, a shot ahead of England's Robert Rock and two ahead of countrymen and Ryder Cup veterans Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter.

Not making the weekend's cut is former Dunbar Grammar School pupil David Drysdale (+4) who finished one under for today's round, and qualifier Neil Fenwick (+5).

Fenwick, attached to Dunbar Golf Club, never managed a birdie in a tough nine-over round of 80 on Thursday but went round in 13 fewer shots today for a fine score of 67 (-4).
