CATRIONA Matthew sits tied for 21st after an eventful second day at the Women's Open.

Tricky conditions at Royal Troon mean only leader Dani Holmqvist sits under level par (-1) after two rounds of the Ayrshire course.

The 32-year-old leads at the halfway stage of the competition, which continues today (Saturday).

Matthew came into the second day of the tournament, which she won in 2009, on level par and with a spot in the top five.

A birdie on the third looked promising but bogeys on six and eight saw her drop back to one-over par.

Two more bogeys – and a double bogey – saw her finish the day with a round of 76.

That means the North Berwick golfer sits on +5 and tied for 21st place alongside a number of golfers, including Ariya Jutanugarn, who won the Ladies Scottish Open at Gullane Golf Club in 2018.

Matthew tees off shortly after 12.15pm.
