TRANENT maintained their unbeaten start to the new East of Scotland season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Jeanfield Swifts.

The Foresters Park side sit second in the new Premier Division after three games, having won two of their opening matches and drawing the other.

Linlithgow Rose sit top of the table with a 100 per cent record but Premier Division action makes way for cup ties this weekend.

Tranent will travel to Conference A’s Heriot-Watt University in the first round of the Alex Jack Cup.

Elsewhere, Dunbar got back to winning ways with a 1-0 win over Hill of Beath Hawthorn, which saw them leapfrog their opponents in the table.

The Seasiders sit fourth in the table and they welcome Conference A’s Dunipace in the first round of the Alex Jack Cup action on Saturday.

Also playing in the first round of the competition are Musselburgh Athletic, who got their league season up and running on Saturday.

They were 2-1 winners at home to Sauchie and this weekend welcome Peebles Rovers.

Unfortunately, both of East Lothian’s Conference A sides tasted defeated at the weekend.

Haddington lost 1-0 to Heriot-Watt University while league leaders Kinnoull thumped Ormiston 8-0.

Joe Hamill’s Haddington welcome Leith Athletic this Saturday while Ormiston head back over the Forth to face St Andrews.

Finally, Preston Athletic made it two wins out of two when they defeated Stirling University 4-2 in Conference B.

They sit third in the table having played a game fewer than Glenrothes and league leaders Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts.

However, they will be unable to close the gap this weekend as the first preliminary round of the Scottish Cup sees them travel to Linlithgow Rose.
