REGIS Prograis has billed his upcoming fight with Josh Taylor as “the best versus the best”.

The American was in Glasgow on Saturday evening to take in Taylor’s victory over Ivan Baranchyk.

That set up a World Boxing Super Series final match between the two, with three belts – Prograis’ WBA World Super Lightweight belt, Taylor’s IBF World Super Lightweight title and the Ring Magazine title – and the Muhammad Ali Trophy all on the line.

The undefeated star, who entered the post-match press conference wearing a kilt, was looking forward to the fight, which is expected to take place later this year.

He said: “I feel like he is the second best in the division.

“Even when we went to Moscow a year ago [for the quarter-final draw], I said he was the second best in the division after me.

“He feels like he is the first, I feel like I am the first – I am the first right now, really.

“This is a hell of a fight just because I think me and him in the next three years if we did not fight each other now, we would be on Pay-Per-View (PPV). But you have it right now.

“That is why I entered the tournament and the same thing from him. You hear it all the time and it really is the best fighting the best. It is single elimination – he had to beat two people and I have had to beat two people to get here. That is why it is perfect.

“In every other division right now, if they are not in the World Boxing Super Series, you have got champions but nobody really knows who the best is.

“You have got title holders – I would not even call them champions – because they just have belts out there.

“They are just fighting whoever but with me and Josh it is truly the best in the division fighting the best in the division. This really could be a PPV fight in a couple of years but it is happening this year.It is going to be like a super fight.”

Prograis, 30, defeated Belarussin Kiryl Relikh in the other semi-final last month.

On Taylor’s performance against Baranchyk, Prograis said: “I saw a lot of holes and you cannot get hit like that from me. I cannot wait.”
