BOWLS legend Alex Marshall remains on track for glory at the World Indoor Championships.

The Tranent resident is in action at the Potters Resort, Great Yarmouth and last night (Thursday) secured victory in the first round of the singles competition.

Marshall did not have it all his own way against Ray Martin, from New Zealand, but came through 11-2, 7-8, 2-0.

He faces England’s Nick Brett in the second round next Thursday (January 24) but attention now turns to the final of the pairs event, where Marshall lines up with partner Paul Foster.

Marshall and Foster beat their international colleagues Ronnie Duncan and Colin Walker in the pairs semi-finals last Monday and, this coming Monday, tackle Greg Harlow and Nick Brett - Marshall's second round singles opponent - for the pairs trophy.

Victory for Marshall would be his fifth open pairs world indoor title.
