THERE were great celebrations at Cockenzie and Port Seton Bowling Club as the club’s ladies won the league for the first time in their history.

The evening league saw EL-Coop win and Castlepark finish runners-up.

?In the Top 6 final, Castlepark took on EL-Coop. Mags Thomson defeated Yvonne Vietch in the singles, EL-Coop took the pairs with Ann Hogg and Emma Logan beating Val Bird and Janet Fairnie;,but with the Castlepark triple of Karen Davidson, Susan Cockburn and Jean Russell victorious over Alannah Whyte, Pauline Pride and Veronica Auld, Castlepark retained the trophy 4-2.

The season concluded with the Champion of Champions, which were held at Gifford Bowling Club on Sunday, September 2.

In the singles, Dawn Murdoch from East Linton held a 12-7 lead over Lauren Baillie from Cockenzie & Port Seton but a run of 2, 4, 4, 3 and 1 saw Baillie take the title 21-12.

In the pairs, Essa Scott and Leanne Baillie of Cockenzie and Port Seton had a comfortable win over Sue Glen and Eleanor Bannerman of Haddington 20-8 with an end to spare.

Castlepark, represented by Tracey Frame, Jean Russell and Mags Thomson, were all square with the Gifford triple of Linda Johnston, Eleanor Bisset and Morag Wood but a run of 3, 3, 1, 1, and 1 saw Castlepark take the title by 17-11.

In the final of the fours East Linton, represented by Pat Fender, Helen Woodward, Ella Bella and Hazel Fender, were tied on the penultimate end with the North Berwick four of Irene Robertson, Maureen Lorimer, Margaret Nisbet and Gill Harley at 13-13, before a two on the final end saw East Linton take the title.
