BOXING superstar Josh Taylor will face American Ryan Martin in Glasgow in November, it has been confirmed this morning (Friday).

Prestonpans sensation Taylor, the current WBC Silver super lightweight champion, faces undefeated American Ryan Martin in the last eight of the competition.

The 27-year-old former Preston Lodge High School pupil told Courier Sport last week that he was hopeful of a return to the SSE Hydro in Glasgow – the venue for his last two fights, including his victory over former world champion Viktor Postol; he also won his 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medal there.

And this morning, details of the bout - Taylor's 14th as a professional, were confirmed (see tweet below). . .

East Lothian Courier:

And following the confirmation the bout will take place in Glasgow, Taylor, pictured above in action against Viktor Postol, said: “I’m delighted to be boxing in Scotland in front of my home fans.

"On November 3, the Scots will get to see the World Boxing Super Series show come to town and I will put on a winning performance to keep them singing.

"I will be ready.”

The ‘Tartan Tornado’ said a partisan home crowd would turn the Clyde-side venue into a “cauldron” for his American opponent.

“I think we’ll get the bagpipes out, I’ll get piped to the ring and we’ll play some pretty traditional music to really get the crowd going wild,” he said.

“That would put the fear into him.”

While negotiations over the date and venue of the bout are ironed out, Taylor continues his preparations in the gym under the watch of coach Shane McGuigan.

“I like to keep fit, but after the last two fights I’ve had some time off and caught up with my pals, went to the bike racing with my dad and just lived normally for a bit,” Taylor said.

East Lothian Courier:

He added: “I’ve been back in camp for three weeks now and working hard but before that I was in the gym ticking over and going out for wee runs.

“It’s meant that I’ve not had to chase my fitness or worry about making weight.

“I’m feeling good – I feel sharp and fit and we’ll keep building up as the fight gets nearer.”

Meanwhile Taylor said that he has still to watch much of Ryan, adding: “I’m just worrying about myself and I’ll let him worry about me."

If Taylor defeats Martin he will fight the winner of the bout between Ivan Baranchyk and Anthony Yigit for the IBF world title.

Tickets for the November 3 show go on sale from Tuesday (September 11).
