MANAGER Gary Henderson hailed his Longniddry Villa under-15 side after they lifted the Scottish Cup on Sunday.
The young Villa side beat Falkirk FC Foundation Blue 2-1 in the final at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium to lift the trophy for the first time in the club’s history.
After the win, Henderson said: “It a great achievement for the club. It’s the first time we’ve ever won it since the club was formed in 1997 so it’s a great way to celebrate turning 21. The club has come a long way.”
Longniddry took the lead on 38 minutes, taking advantage of a defensive error; the ball fell to Ben Dixon, who finished well.
Falkirk equalised minutes later after a free-kick was spilled by keeper Sam Capes and Liam Fagan capitalised.
Both teams were lively at the start of the second half but extra time was looming until Aiden Walsh gathered a long ball and slid the ball past Falkirk keeper Gregor Fullarton to spark wild celebrations.
The winning squad: Sam Capes, Adrian Kulik, Euan Donaldson, Dylan Dickie, Adam Matthews, Jack MacDonald, Lewis Inglis, Calum McGowan, Aiden Walsh, Anthony Kearney, Aaron Barbour, Harvey Thomson, Matthew McMillan, Ben Dixon, Damian Konawalski, Murray Wilson.
