MUSSELBURGH ended the rugby sevens season on a high with victory at their own tournament on Saturday.

Burgh, who last month won North Berwick 7s, claimed the Brunton Cup with a 38-14 win over LFEA, an Edinburgh-based side.

Earlier in the day, the hosts saw off Queen Margaret University 73-0, Portobello 63-0 and a Presidents XI 24-10 to reach the final.

LFEA, who had ex-Burgh favourite Marko Mladenovic in their ranks, beat Preston Lodge (21-10) and The Mystery, another invitational side, 31-7, to book their place in the last game.

And there was double cause for celebration as a Musselburgh youth side defeated their Portobello counterparts to win the Calum Veitch Memorial Trophy.

The match is played each year in memory of Calum, a former Musselburgh RFC youth member and Portobello High School pupil, who died, aged 17, in 2011.

Organisers were delighted with a good turnout and thanked everyone for helping make the day a success once more.
