TWO Haddington RFC stars are set for international duty this weekend. . . representing Sweden in Lithuania.

Props Jonas ‘Grillan’ Grillfors and David Bergvall have been included in the 23-man Sweden squad for the match in Telsiai on Sunday.

They will win their second and third caps respectively and are delighted to be involved in the squad.

The pair arrived at the Neilson Park club last summer, Bergvall for a third spell, and have been virtual ever-presents in the 1st XV this season.

Such has been 27-year-old Grillfors’ talents that he has been deployed in the back-row more recently.

Bergvall told Courier Sport he was looking forward to this weekend’s clash.

He said: “I expect a physical game – they beat us 14-52 in Sweden so it will be a tough game.

“I’m very lucky to be in the squad, I got in as a reserve and I don’t know how much game time I’ll get.

“But if and when I come on, I’m going to contribute with what I do best – offering myself as a carrier, running hard and beating my man in contact.”

The 31-year-old tighthead also offered his take on the opposition, adding: “They are a big, physical side and we’ll have to play smart. For us, what we need to do is to try to create as many opportunities as possible and when we get a chance for points, be clinical.”

Grillfors, who last represented Sweden in 2014, was equally thrilled.

He added: “I’m really looking forward to putting on that jersey again and representing the national team.”

The pair live in Haddington and leave the town tomorrow (Friday) morning, before returning early next week.

And Bergvall was already looking forward to the final game of the season at Neilson Park – a relegation decider against Dalziel next Saturday (May 5).

He said: “We’ll be back to Haddington for training on Tuesday for a massively important game against Dalziel.”
