THERE were contrasting emotions for two county football starlets at the Irn Bru Cup final on Saturday.

Defender Coll Donaldson was named man of the match as his Inverness Caledonian Thistle side beat a Dumbarton team that featured Danny Handling, from Haddington.

Carl Tremarco scored the winner in the third minute of stoppage time as Donaldson and his team-mates beat their Championship rivals, who were playing in a domestic cup final for the first time in more than 100 years.

A crowd of 4,602 at McDiarmid Park saw a first half of few chances but the Highland club looked the more likely team to score in the second period and Iain Vigurs had a penalty saved by Scott Gallacher before Tremarco won it, sparking scenes of jubilation for 22-year-old former North Berwick High School pupil Donaldson and his team-mates.

The 22-year-old former Dundee United and QPR man tweeted: "Great day for all the boys today!

"Thanks for the fans for travelling down in [their] numbers today!

"Buzzing for @tommytremarco3 top man. Enjoy your night everyone."
