BOWLS legend Alex Marshall will captain Scotland at this year's World Bowls Championships in New Zealand.

Marshall, known as Tattie, is joined in the squad by fellow East Lothian ace Lauren Baillie, while Paul Foster, Marshall's long-term Pairs partner, is a former East Lothian player.

The 10-strong squad will head to Christchurch in November to contest the championships, which run between November 27 and December 12.

The squad will carry Scotland’s hopes of qualifying for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, but Rhona Howie, Bowls Scotland high performance manager, was in confident mood.

She said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for the players to challenge for the medal podium and compete on the world stage against some very strong opposition.

"There will be some challenging conditions in Christchurch for the players but we are convinced that the players who have been selected will manage these challenges in a professional manner and compete to the best of their ability for their country.”

The squad in full is: Alex Marshall (captain), Darren Burnett, Lesley Doig, Lauren Baillie, Paul Foster, Julie Forrest, Stacey McDougall, Claire Johnston, Ronnie Duncan and Iain McLean
