I refer to the very moving tribute to Harvey Butterworth that was written by his daughter Susanne Freer and published on March 26.

Harvey died suddenly while playing golf at Haddington Golf Club on February 27.

This event moved one of his playing partners on the day, Gordon Boyd, to raise the question of the availability of a defibrillator within the Haddington area.

On raising the subject at a weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Haddington, of which he is a past president, members were quick to realise the need for a defibrillator and, in conjunction with the golf club, an appeal has now been launched.

In addition, it was felt that should enough funds be raised then a second unit should be purchased and located centrally, perhaps at the John Gray Centre, to be available for similar emergencies within the town centre.

The Rotary Club of Haddington stages its major fundraising charity golf competition at Haddington Golf Club on May 14 and it was decided that some of the money raised, always earmarked for local as well as national good causes, would be put towards this appeal.

Full details of the event, along with entry forms and sponsor opportunities, can be found on the Rotary website, www.haddingtonrotary.co.uk Any member of the public or business who may want to contribute to this appeal may do so through myself by telephone on 07970 132176 or email at drewramsay@outlook.com Drew Ramsay Long Cram Haddington I refer to the very moving tribute to Harvey Butterworth that was written by his daughter Susanne Freer and published on March 26.
