Rail travel across much of the Central Belt is to be disrupted amid major engineering works beginning this weekend, warns ScotRail.

Throughout much of March, passengers will have to use alternative means of travel if they are wanting to go to or from Carstairs in South Lanarkshire.

This will affect any and all travel going through Carstairs, forcing many to make new arrangements.

How long will train disruption last to and from Carstairs?

The major engineering works are expected to last from Saturday, March 4 until May 30.

This comes after months of disruption caused by a series of strikes by those employed by Network Rail and ScotRail.

Will there be replacement buses available for Carstairs routes?

ScotRail has confirmed that buses will link affected destinations like Carstairs, Carluke and Wishaw for Edinburgh trains, providing an alternative for customers.

Will tickets for Carstairs be valid amid major disruption to routes?

Tickets for Carstairs will be valid via Lanark and on the 37 and 137 Carstairs to Lanark buses.

How to check if my ScotRail train is affected by engineering works

ScotRail has recommended that passengers check their train journey via the ScotRail website to see if they are affected by ongoing engineering works.

This can be checked by inputting your departure destination and the place you want to travel to as well as the correct date and time.

Disruption to and from Carstairs will last from Saturday, March 4 to May 30, 2023.
