The news this week that a private jet company owned by Celtic's majority shareholder Dermot Desmond uses an offshore account came to light.

The first thing of note is that there is nothing illegal in the activity. That is not to say that to the ordinary working guy on the street grafting away it will seem correct.

But I would have to say that issue for me was that there appeared to be a smear between linking Celtic to the issue and also offering a vague suggestion that it might have been interpreted as similar to what went on at Ibrox.

I think that is unfair and also hugely wide of the mark.

There is no question that Desmond is a hugely influential figure at Celtic – but equally there has been absolutely no suggestion that the club are guilty of any wrongdoing.

I think that is what stuck in the craw of some supporters – the attempt to smear the club with the allegations.

Whatever the tax affairs of Desmond, it is unrelated to the way that Celtic as a club have been run.
