AMBITIOUS proposals that could see a “budget-style” hotel and care home built side-by-side in North Berwick will be discussed next week.

A public consultation surrounding the initial plans submitted by Frontier Estates Ltd takes place on Tuesday at the town’s Glen Golf Club.

A pre-application notice (PAN) was last month submitted to East Lothian Council highlighting land off the town’s Tantallon Road – west of Tesco – as home to the hotel and care facility.

Last Tuesday, Ric Finc, of applicants Rick Finc Associates, attended a meeting of North Berwick Community Council to shed more light on the plans.

He told the meeting that it was likely to be for a 65-bed hotel and 75-bed care home.

“The application is at a very formative stage and we are just trying to develop this,” he said.

“East Lothian Council have asked us to look at access and the junction of Tantallon Road at the old Ben Sayers factory.”

On the possibility of the hotel being operated by Travelodge, Mr Finc said he felt they would be “very interested” in moving to the site.

All are welcome to attend Tuesday’s public exhibition, which runs between 1pm and 7pm at the golf club.
