A MAN has been charged in connection with buying alcohol for underage children after youths were spotted with alcohol in Musselburgh.

Police were on patrol on North High Street on Friday when they observed three youths under the age of 18 in possession of alcohol.

Inquiries were conducted and a 45-year-old man was subsequently arrested.

A report will now be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal and further inquiries are continuing to identify any possible licensing issues at the store where the alcohol was purchased.

Inspector Andrew Harborow said: "We already know that alcohol plays a significant role in crimes of anti-social behaviour and violence and the risks are increased when those aged under 18 are drinking.

"Supplying alcohol to children is a serious offence and anyone found to be responsible for such a crime will be robustly dealt with."
