A 20-YEAR-OLD man has died after collapsing in Haddington earlier today.

Police said the man, who has not been identified, fell ill as he was walking over Nungate Bridge, shortly before 11am.

Ambulance and police were called to the scene as passers-by stopped to help.

The man, who is believed to live locally, was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh but died some time later.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in East Lothian attended at the Nungate Bridge in Haddington at around 10.45am following reports of a man having taken unwell. 

"The 20-year-old was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he sadly passed away. 

"This death is currently being treated as unexplained but not suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
