NEW Year baby Abby Logan took her family by surprise with an early arrival just three hours into 2018.

Abby was born five weeks early at Simpson’s maternity unit in Edinburgh at 3.02am on Monday.

Delighted parents Wendy Logan and Claire Lynn, who live in Haddington, announced the news on social media with Wendy saying: “A little earlier than expected... the arrival of this beautiful little angel Abby! What a way to start the New Year! “

Abby is the first child for Wendy, 40, a senior audiologist with NHS Tayside, and Claire, 39, who runs a care for the elderly business in North Berwick.

The news was shared by Abby’s uncle, television doctor Professor James Logan.

James, from North Berwick, is associate professor in the department of disease control at the London School of Hygene and Tropical Medicine, and a science TV presenter, working on programmes with the BBC and Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies.

He took to Twitter to announce his delight at the new arrival to his followers.

He said: “I’m an uncle to a wee star! So proud of my sister and her partner on the birth of their beautiful daughter on New Year’s Day! Well done girls.”
