A CALL has been made for the traffic lights at one of the busiest junctions in Haddington to be adjusted.
Work took place earlier this summer for the lights, at the junction of Market Street, Hardgate and Victoria Terrace, to be refurbished.
Since the work has been completed, it has been claimed that the amount of traffic coming from the east able to negotiate the junction before the lights change has decreased.
John Hamilton, a member of Haddington and District Community Council, told colleagues that he had reported the issue to East Lothian Council.
He told the Courier: “They only let about four cars through now.
“They got refurbished about two months ago.
“Previously, especially when football was coming out or there was a funeral on, you got massive tailbacks.
“So they got adjusted but, when they got refurbished, they obviously defaulted back.
“I’ve reported it to East Lothian Council and brought it up at a community council meeting.”
A spokesperson for the local authority said that the council was aware of the issue.
They said: “Our traffic signal contractor has recently replaced the detection equipment on the lights at this location, which it is hoped may address a potential intermittent fault.
“The situation will be monitored to ensure it is working as it should.”
