PLAIN clothed police officers are being used to tackle anti-social behaviour on East Lothian buses.
East Lothian Community Action Team (ELCAT) are working in partnership with Lothian and East Coast Buses to address the issue.
Youth-related anti-social behaviour has been reported by local bus operators in and around Musselburgh, Tranent, Ormiston and Pencaitland in recent weeks.
Last month, three buses heading for Tranent had to be rerouted after they were allegedly damaged.
Plain clothes officers have already carried out patrols and spoken to a number of youths, reminding them of their responsibilities when travelling.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed this tactic would continue to be used.
They said: “Throughout the coming months these patrols will be carried out on bus services throughout East Lothian in order to deter offenders.
“Parents and carers are asked to ensure they are aware of where their young people are and that they behave appropriately when out in the community.
“Police and partners will continue to work together to make travel safe for everyone.”
