A VARIETY of organisations are supporting the Musselburgh area’s annual Communities Day on Saturday, September 28.
People can go along to the Fisherrow Centre on South Street from 11am to 3pm to find out more about the clubs and groups in attendance at the event.
Communities Day is organised by Musselburgh Area Partnership, which allocates a budget from East Lothian Council to projects and is involved in initiatives in Musselburgh area, Wallyford and Whitecraig.
Entertainment can also be enjoyed by children, including face painting, balloon modelling, Bookbug and circus skills. There will be sport taster sessions throughout the day and also free bike checks. A fire engine will be on display, as well as motorcycles and a boat from Eskmuthe Community Rowing Club.
“This is a day which has something for everyone and a day not to be missed,” said Alister Hadden, the area partnership’s vice chair.
The Clark Concert Party and Clark Community Choir will perform at the event, which will feature Senior Moments, a ukulele band; The Warblers, a singing group for people with lung condition; and a youth band.
There will be the chance to view a tapestry about the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh, which was fought between the Scots and English in the Musselburgh area in 1547.
The Dementia Friendly group will be represented and cost-of-living information will be available, as well as the Scrap Store and arts and crafts.
Sport is also an important part of Communities Day, with Musselburgh Youngstars, Musselburgh and District Athletic Club, the town’s swimming, cricket and rugby club, and the Active Schools service all in attendance.
There will also be the opportunity to watch a chair being upholstered.
Mr Hadden added: “Communities Day is such an important day for the Musselburgh area and beyond for giving people the opportunity to see what so many in our community do for our community and to make a difference for all ages.”
Visitors will be able to join the local groups, clubs or organisations.
