SHOCKED residents are backing a fundraising campaign to raise cash for the woman who suffered a miscarriage following an alleged assault.
Paul Klak has opened up a GoFundMe page to attract donations that will go to the affected family or to fund a permanent memorial near to where the incident took place in Tranent.
The local tradesman wrote: “Looking to raise a wee [bit of] money to help out the family in Tranent that lost [their] unborn child. If you know the story you know.
“Hopefully a wee bit money can go a long [way] to maybe give them a wee break or set up [a] memorial.”
The pregnant woman was allegedly assaulted by two boys as she waited for a bus on Tranent High Street at about 6.20pm on Friday, August 30.

The woman’s husband revealed on a local community Facebook page last week that his wife had subsequently suffered a miscarriage while being treated in hospital.
He wrote: “I just want to update everyone about the condition of my wife.
“It is with a heavy heart to inform the community that my wife had a miscarriage, pregnancy loss and she is still in the hospital recuperating.
“This is a very traumatic, heartbreaking, and a horrible experience for us, especially to my wife and kids.”
The fundraising appeal is being widely backed by members of the local community, who have been left shocked by the incident in their town.
One woman said: “Amazing thing to do for them Paul. Hopefully it takes a little bit pressure off the family and they can grieve without worrying financially.”
A second posted: “Very thoughtful and I’m sure they’ll appreciate the gesture.”
And a third added: “A memorial is a great idea.”
Following the incident, police launched an investigation and two teenage boys were charged last week.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Following a report on August 30 that a female was assaulted at a bus stop in Tranent, extensive enquiries were carried out by the East Lothian community police team.
“Two 13-year-old boys have now been charged and reported.”
