A COUNTY man who was caught in possession of indecent images of children has been placed on the sex offenders' register for three years.
Robert Melrose was found to have downloaded the pictures to a mobile device when police officers attended at his home on Robertson Drive, Tranent.
Melrose, 22, pleaded guilty to the offence, carried out over a 17-month period, when he appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month.
He returned for sentencing last Tuesday, where Sheriff Charles Walls officially placed him on the sex offenders' register and under the supervision of the social work department, both for three years.
Melrose was also told he must carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the community as punishment.
He admitted possessing indecent images of children at his home between July 29, 2021, and November 29, 2022.
