A MUSSELBURGH man who injured two Tranent residents when he smashed a window with a brick has been told he must engage with alcohol and drug services.

Steven Whyte acted in an aggressive manner towards two occupants of a home on Kings Road after he attended at the property in April last year.

The 33-year-old shouted, swore and threatened two residents before taking possession of a brick.

Whyte then smashed a window at the property and caused an injury to both victims after throwing the object.

Police were alerted to the disturbance and Whyte, of Stoneybank Terrace, was arrested and charged.

He appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in June, where he pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and to possessing an offensive weapon, namely a brick.

Last week, he returned to the dock and Sheriff Douglas Keir placed him on a community payback order.

Solicitor Mr Runcie, representing Whyte, told the court that his client had been experiencing difficulties with alcohol and drugs in the past but was now “motivated” to address those issues.

Sheriff Keir said that he was “satisfied there is an alternative to custody on these matters” and placed Whyte under the supervision of the local social work department for the next 12 months.

The sheriff also issued a conduct requirement where Whyte must attend sessions with a drug and alcohol service.
