ROADWORKS are currently being carried out on a busy road connecting Cockenzie to the A198 and beyond.

The first phase of work last week saw Avenue Road closed from its junction with Alder Road roundabout to its junction with The Chimneys.

The second phase of work takes place this week and sees the road closed from its junction with The Chimneys to its junction with South Lorimer Place.

The works are estimated by the council to be finished by August 19.

The council left a description of the roadworks on TellMeScotland.Gov.UK, which reads: "It is the council's intention to undertake carriageway resurfacing work on the B6371 Avenue Road, Cockenzie, from its junction with Alder Road roundabout to the junction with South Lorimer Place, commencing on Monday, August 5, 2024, for approximately two weeks, weather permitting.

"In order to comply with current health and safety legislation, it will be necessary to close the road to through vehicular traffic. Local diversion routes will be signed accordingly.

"Emergency vehicle access and pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

"To minimise disruption, the works will be undertaken in two phases."

Drivers are asked to follow the diversion route.
